 Review

I don't think it would be overstating the fact to say that Promise Keepers has done as much, if not more, to positively impact Christian men in the United States than any other men's ministry over the last 14 years. Add to that their evangelistic efforts and their influence then reaches outside of the church community. This album is a celebration of what God has done among the male population of our nation... and beyond.

There is always something powerful about male voices joining together in song. That expression becomes even more powerful when the song is one of worship to the King of Kings.

There is no better example of that than the fourth cut on this album, 'Strong Tower'. Jason King (who sounds a whole lot like Mac Powell of Third Day) and the background choir provide us with a powerful rendition of this Peter Furler/Steve Taylor song. I found myself playing it over and over. It was as if you could feel God's strength being ministered through this potent anthem that should be, in my opinion, a staple of the present day church. It carries the same strength for me as Luther's A Mighty Fortress.

Rivaling Strong Tower for my favorite song was the final cut of the album, 'In Christ Alone/The Solid Rock'. What a powerful proclamation of our faith in Christ. It has a bit of an Irish ballad "feel" to it... a favorite style of mine. Even though it is a powerful song, they gave room for it to breathe musically. Jason King gives us another passionate lead vocal on this song. It's difficult to listen to this one without giving in to the urge to bow in reverent worship of our awesome God and Savior.

There is quite a variety of musical styles on this project, though the predominant feel of the majority of songs is Rock. 'Strong Tower' has a great march/militant feel about it. 'Still' has almost a disco feel to it. Mix in a ballad (In Christ Alone) and you have covered quite a few of the musical bases. There is also a nice version of Chris Tomlin's recent 'How Great is Our God'.

For me the strongest songs on the album were those that proclaimed the greatness of God. I think the male voice is particularly suited for trumpeting the power of His Name. You couldn't go wrong adding this album to your worship collection.
